Railroad Car History navigation bar Railroad Car History

This site belongs to Darrell Sawyer and is one of three related web sites which can be found under the Railroad Car History banner. As a group, we believe we provide the most extensive coverage of railroad car history. The other sites belong to Dave Casdorph and Eric Neubauer. Each site lists the owner's publications along with price and ordering information. In addition, each site offers regular editorial features and reference materials which can be downloaded for free and are designed to promote an interest in railroad car history.

All of the Freight Cars Illustrated publications are released on Compact Disc (CD) in Adobe's Portable Document Format (.pdf) and are viewable on all computers with Adobe's free Acrobat Reader. Each FCIX volume contains hundreds of high resolution, full color roster and detail photographs, as well as corresponding data for each model or series of cars. Each photo-packed volume covers a specific topic (cars by a specific manufacturer, cars used in a specific service, cars rostered by a specific railroad, etc.). The listed prices includes shipping anywhere in the world. Preferred payment methods are PayPal and US Postal money orders.

What's New:
Starting January 1st, 2008, all Freight Car Illustrated volumes are now $20.00 each (a 20% savings from the regular price of $25.00) to help your railroad research dollars go further in these times of economic uncertainty. And, as in the past, the listed price includes shipping (via USPS for US and International orders and Canada Post for Canadian orders). Same quality eBooks, just at a reduced price!

Reference Sheet 008 is now available for download for free. Shop Codes is the topic of this reference sheet. Those codes applied to the sides of cars that identify the shop or facility that weighed, painted or lined the car. There's a six page table with 341 codes that link the symbol to the owner of the facility as well as the location. There are also 44 photographs of either stenciled or adhesive-backed vinyl codes and logos.
